The Magic of 15 Purposeful Minutes

Students can achieve significant literacy gains with as little as 15 minutes of daily reading. Learn how to promote more purposeful independent reading practice that moves students from the acquisition of foundational skills to the fluency, generalization, and application of those skills through two essential forms of practice:

  • Individualized skills practice: Practice on acquiring new foundational skills—such as phonological awareness, phonics, and vocabulary—to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Dynamic reading practice: Practice that moves students from the acquisition of skills to the application of those skills to support continued growth in literacy.
